Quadrophobe Bio:
If Quadrophobe were a cereal, they'd be Lucky Charms. There'd often be quite a bit of boring wheaty hoop things to get through first, but when you did, the rewards would be pure sugar. Something like that. Oh, and you have to add milk to taste. And use a spoon.
Cereal analogies aside, the band who call themselves Quadrophobe found formation somewhere back in the misty recesses of 2003, with an album called Anyway - a pioneering experiment in not playing instruments very well by founding members Messers Hughes & Martin. The band then gently shifted and changed over the years like a finely crafted trifle, first coercing the aid of some kind of musical ogre, who was cattle-prodded into involvement and chained behind the drum kit. It has since been discovered that a variety of musical instruments can be successfully forced onto the beast, known only as The Wilks. Next, a vocalist was constructed from 1880's fashion accessories, bits of old tweed and a healthy measure of whiskey, and given the name Kennington. How it roared upon creation! It felt like contentment should be theirs; and yet their sound was lacking. How they hunted and searched for the missing element; and then suddenly, it came to them. From on high, the funk had arrived in the shape of the Driscoll, like a greasy angel. Quadrophobe was complete!
The Quadrophobe ethic can roughly be described as 'having fun'. Their on stage unpredictability is therefore all entirely part of this larger plan. Described as 'chaotic', 'funky pop', 'other' and 'a bunch of raving old queens', Quadrophobe don't really know where to begin describing their own sound - they only hope you enjoy hearing it as much as they enjoy making it. Since formation, they have written songs, recorded, gigged, and pioneered the Jazz Elephant; roughly in that order. They also made a decision to study at universities as far apart in the country as could possibly be arranged, and so have made a firm decision against any kind of practise before gigs. However! All this is to change in the imminent future, as degrees are finished, an EP is recorded, and some form of practise may even take place! Watch this space avidly for information about the 'up and coming' EP and any number of gigs; they certainly will be.
