SoulShifter Bio:From the moment he picked up a guitar and opened his mouth to sing in 1993, Soulshifter was been touching others with his blend of raw emotion, soulful wisdom, and an understanding of the hardships of life. Self-taught and self promoting, he has gone from playing soley to friends and family to the venues of Santa Barbara, telivision, and now the internet and internet radio. Currently a solo artist, he has written, recorded, and produced his first CD on his own. His combination of powerful lyrics and raw emotion holds the attention of all who listen. Trish's Review: Soulshifter
Current mood: impressed
Paul Navarro-Guevara, known as SoulShifter, has been writing, arranging, and performing his own original music for the last 14 years to the pleasure of his friends and family. Though he's been compared to greats like Jim Morrison with his poetic style and singing with the raw intensity of Eddie Vedder, his music is truly his own. His music spans the genres- from melodic ballads to Gen X grunge to masterful hard rock- no matter what sound, he speaks the truth and pours out his heart and soul into songs that touch all his listeners. As stated on his site, with the encouragement of his loved ones, hes taken his sound to the venues of Santa Barbara and television. With the benefit of myspace.com, heres hoping he takes his music to the world and they see what we see. A great artist, performing great music.
I have been writing songs since the moment I first picked up a guitar 14 years ago, as a way to vent all of the pain, rage, confusion, and fear that haunted me. I taught myself how to play guitar on an old guitar from Sears that someone gave me. Through out the years, I have also taught myself how to play the piano, bass, and recently the drums. All of the songs you hear on this page were done entirely by yours truley. I also want it known that I am a beginner with all of my instruments except the guitar. I've been crudely recording myself since 1994, as way to hear myself so that I could further my growth as a musician. Over the last few years, I've obtained a portable digital studio. I taught myself how to crudely engineer and produce songs, and most recently, an entire album. I know the recording quality isn't that great, but considering I hardly know what I'm doing, I did one hell of a job.
I have used music for years as an emotional and spiritual outlet for myself. Over the years of sharing them with close friends, I realized I wasn't the only one affected by these songs. As they are my medicine, I realized that others find my music to be a medicine as well. After years of pushing me to go public, in 2003 I started playing solo shows in Santa Barbara and did a few tv shows on our local channel 17. After years of trying to find the right bandmates, I said screw it and started teaching myself bass and drums. Now, I can present my music as I've always heard it in my head- complete.
