pOparOxi Bio:
Poparoxi is a four-piece all-female rock band, based in NYC. The sound is versatile yet distinctive. The ladies blend evocative melodies, powerful harmonies, dynamic bass-lines and explosive beats into a seamless tapestry of sound. Running the gamut from upbeat surf-riffs to hard-driving, emotionally charged anthems, Poparoxi offers up a unique and compelling brand of modern rock.
Poparoxi began with Jackie Poplaski, a veteran songwriter and talented vocalist, whose influences range from Veruca Salt to Tool. She met Gillian Boudreau, in an ill-fated funk band, long long ago. Gillians moody harmonies, influenced by talents such as Fiona Apple and Eddie Vedder, fused seamlessly with Jacksons sparkling melodies. The ladies decided to take their show on the road, and began working on a distinctive sound. They were soon joined by Amanda Donnelly, Aussie bass player extraordinaire. With an inventiveness that echoed such influences as James Jamerson, Flea and John Paul Jones, Amanda grounded the sound and found riffs that began to weave Poparoxi together. After a long and difficult search, the 3 ladies finally found drummer Lisa Wilson, a Detroit rocker who had taken her sticks to NYC. Lisa infused the music with a final dose of energy and power, drawing on a wide range of influences from Garbage and Cyndi Lauper to Pantera.
Complete since December of 2003, Poparoxi has been taking New York by storm. Recent shows have taken place at Kennys Castaways, Sin-E, and Luna Lounge, Northsix, Piano's, and the Lit Lounge, as well as a tour through Detroit and Cleveland
