Skyrocket Bio:
Skyrocket will make you feel emotions you didn’t even know existed. Just like their namesake, their songs soar into the outer reaches of the stratosphere, exploding into a burst of color and diving back to Earth with a roar. Skyrocket achieves a balance between the familiar and the strange, always searching for new ways to express emotion through sound and song. The band is fronted by Gavin Brown, a lead singer of remarkable height with a warm tenor and even warmer rhythm guitar. Jon Russ uses his guitar to explore all aspects of sound, from the drone of an E-bow to the raging scream of an amp feeding back to the immortal rock growl. Bassist Eric Fantich plays fluid and melodic lines reminiscent of the Cure’s greatest moments. And last but certainly not least, there is Matt Spitz, whose drumming is as unpredictably imaginative as it is musical. Skyrocket grew out of Providence’s now-defunct Silver Screen, of which both Gavin and Eric were members. Gavin had played with Jon at a gig in May ’04, and when Silver Screen’s lead guitarist left for a year to England, the scene was set. On returning to Providence that September, the three finally played together, and shortly a few songs began to coalesce; it was obvious already that the chemistry within the group was a special one. By October, Matt had joined. Several songs were completed, a name was selected, and Skyrocket began its career in front of a packed audience at their school, Brown University. The group continues to evolve, collaborating on every song to create the diverse yet unique and cohesive sound that is Skyrocket. |
