Miss Nana Bio:
Miss NaNa (13) The streets of Newark the “Brick City” New Jersey have produced, yet, another jewel. Her name is Miss NaNa and right now, the streets are hers. After pushing over 20,000 CDs in under 2 years, in Newark alone, she is definitely on her way. Nana, born Tanyshwia D. Stokes just over a decade ago, has accomplished a great deal in a short period of time. A native of Newark, NaNa has been around the music business all her life. Her dad is the infamous Big 7, who is the founder of the Newark Illustrated Movement –a movement that connects Hip-Hop, clothing and community pride in the Brick City. NaNa’s story is an interesting one. DJ King Shameek (of Twin Hype fame) heard her rhyming on her Dad’s voicemail and suggested that she do a promo for New York’s syndicated Wendy Williams’ radio Show on 107.5 WBLS. The promo led to others, then led to remixes and freestyles for various radio and mix tape DJ’s across the country. With a message that promotes staying in school, abstinence and listening to ones parents, NaNa does it like the best of them. Her songs are loved by her young peers, high school students, adults and other music lovers who have grown tired of the “same ole, same ole.” She describes her sound as being “Slick but Clean.”
NaNa has many plans that include completing her highly anticipated LP and a career in acting. However, she has made it clear that school continues to be top priority. NaNa is “making the grade” in school and simultaneously packing auditoriums from city to city during her School Promo Tour. Thanks to a number of high profile duets - on B.E.T.’s 106 & Park while being interviewed - Columbia recording artist Bow Wow invited Newark’s favorite Lil sista to join him on his 2003 “Unleashed Tour”. After the completion of the tremendously successful tour, and hours of stage experience, Miss Nana is kicking down the door and headed for her inevitable rise to rap royalty! Nana has also performed throughout the country with the likes of Omarion, Lil Jon, Marcus Houston, Mario, Amerie, Lil Kim, Floetry, ATL, 50 Cent, 3LW, Ying Yang Twinz, J-Kwon, Rah Digga, Wyclef, 8 Ball & MJG, El & Chico Debarge, Keith Murray and Joe Buddens. Highlights include a performance for Radio Disney at the African American Festival in Albany New York, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus and the Half Time Show for a WNBA’s Lady Liberty game at Madison Square Garden. Nana currently has a mixtape out entitled “Still Unsigned” (hint, hint, record companies) with one of her standout quotes being “Speculation, Why Nana Ain’t Signed -My Justification Is Nana Ain’t Blind”. No matter the beat, Miss Nana continues to display her uncanny ability to “spit flows” that keep her loyal fans wanting more. Her last mixtape entitled “Still Jackin Beats” contained live footage of her and Bow Wow on the Unleashed Tour. Among the people she admirers include Eve for not using too much profanity, Ashanti for working hard and believing in herself and 50 Cent because his climb to the top was started in the streets doing the very things that she is doing now. Aside from doing shows and blazin’ mixtapes -Miss NaNa is selling a great deal of T-Shirts, bandanas, and other items that bear her name. Her busy schedule has not interfered with her other important responsibilities. When NaNa’s not rehearsing for a show, talking to her fans on her 1-900 chat line or replying to her website message board, she’s being a big sister to two siblings, ages 3 and 7. Miss Nana Attends Newark's University High School, which is a talented and gifted school that requires passing a not so easy test. Her father, Big 7, has prepared her adequately for what is before her and has taught her the importance of giving back. With the guidance, love and support of her father, Miss Nana is definitely the epitome of a young urban success story soon to catapult to stardom!!
