The Writings On the Wall Words and music by Tony Graham ©2004 Baby it’s a wonder how I made it through the night. While my dreams they held me prisoner until the morning light. And my body has been fighting just to keep my arms in tight, As I’m falling falling faster through the memories of my life. I see a black and white photograph my Mother took of me, When the swing that I was riding broke and I skinned up both my knees. And there’s the house that I grew up in, there’s some writing on the wall, That tells it all. Now I’m falling falling faster through the memories of my dreams. Did I take them all for granted when life started calling me? Now through the eyes of this little boy that’s always been in me, I am viewing more reflections of what I dreamed I could be. I could build the highest mountains with all my Tonka Toys. I was the greatest inspiration for all little girls and boys. And I commanded my own rocket ship to the bright side of the moon. And I did it while surrounded by the walls of my bed room. The writings on the wall. Well, it seems that I’d forgotten in just the twinkling of an eye, All the dreams that I had dreamed back then how quick the years fly by. As I’m falling falling faster through these dreams that hold my head. It’s a flash of light then nothing. Now I’m wide awake in bed. It’s strange that we don’t realize until our dieing days, All the things that really matter cause we’re pulled so many ways. And though we’d like to start all over but we’re too weak for the call, Of that little boy, the rocket ships, the writings on the wall. Did you build your highest mountains with all your Tonka Toys? Weren’t you the greatest inspiration for all little girls and boys? And did you pilot your own rocket ship to the bright side of the moon? And did you do it while surrounded by the walls of your bedroom? And the writings on the wall. Oh yeah the writings on the wall. |
