Bad Sign Blues Band Bio:
The Bad Sign Blues Band was formed around Spring 2003 when drummer António Santa Clara invited bassist Dieter Pereira and guitarist Hélder Gonçalves to form a blues trio. The three had already played together in Travellin' Band, a 60s and 70s covers band.
This was the first chance they got to explore the instrumental universe of the blues together, and the experience was so gratifying that it planted the seeds that would give birth to the Bad Sign Blues Band - as many of you probably guessed, a name taken from the blues classic "Born Under A Bad Sign", a number they already performed as Travellin' Band.
This time around, and despite some incursions on the soul and vintage rock territories, the band decided their focus would remain on the blues. After some early indecisions about who to trust the vocal duties on the project to, Dieter decided to pick up the burden of being the band's frontman. This proved to be a successful move, as his soulful vocals, along with Hélder's wild licks and António's powerful yet subtle drumming have helped to shape the Bad Sign Blues Band's sound in a unique way.
