Unit 4 Bio: Every now and then, a band emerges that reaches out and speaks to the listener. Unit 4, with singer Jay Wilson is such a band. Formed in Birmingham in 2003, they have quickly developed a devoted following. The presence - combined with the both ambiguous & powerful lyrical content - of Jay Wilson has made many sit up and take notice. Sometimes it seems like he sings to the audience as a stranger, and in the next breath as a beloved friend. He sings of pain and regrets - of despair and longing. But when Jay Wilson sings of love and hope is really when his voice speaks to the listener, with an honesty too rarely heard. Musically, Unit 4 have a style that reflects influences from the alternative bands of the 80s & early 90s. But, in additon to these references to the past, is the voice of the present. Sometimes dark, often heartwarming - always having something to say. Jay Wilson is a very genuine writer and performer. Interperating the words he sings is something the world will have to decifer. To categorise Unit 4 is difficult. Do the band themselves know what they are?! If they do, they're not letting on... |
