The story of Mindeyes started on the last century when Jone and Jussi first joined forces in the band called "16 strings", which was lead by Maker (plays currently in Kasmira). After a few month's practising and a gig the guys thought it would be nice to have a female vocalist who would fit better into the material that had been written. So Johanna was found to hold the microphone. The band changed it's name to Mind's Eye. The joy lasted again for a couple of months (the band also got to play a gig at the legendary Oulun Panimo). Soon after the desicion was made to go for something closer to the roots. However, a suitable singer for that style had to be found first. Somebody recalled an old friend, Make, who had the voice and the attitude required for the job. So, when Make showed up at the rehearsals and had a jam session with the guys, there was no question - Steamroller had found a singer and a front figure! Maker decided to step aside and Johanna moved on to handle the bass. With this lineup the group was ready to rock! Lots of shows were done around Finland and the feedback was positive and encouraging. After a while Johanna felt the band's pace was too high, so she jumped off. A new bass player, Pete, hopped along and the journey continued. Spectacular shows followed each other, but unfortunately Pete had to quit as well. The band got to feel the feminine touch once more, this time by Kata who played the bass for a couple of shows. Some time after the band discovered Teemu as the right guy for the bass playing vacancy and finally Steamroller had found the right combination of feel, skills and attitude to fulfill the high expectations of the hard rocking audience. Hundreds of shows were done during the years, but longing for something else started to smoulder inside. Jussi started to write more melodic songs with spices of catchy hardrock anthems of the 80's. Suddenly the guys realized they didn't practise new Steamroller songs, but more like the songs Jussi and Jone had played in their Mind's Eye era. These songs were done and there was a need to perform with a different name. After careful consideration (and hundreds of suggestions) a logical choice for the new name was Mindeyes. In practise, Mindeyes has already gigged for a couple of years, but as Steamroller (this is due to a confusing situation with our booking agency, ask no more
. Now we're doing gigs with the new name and preserve Steamroller for that "back-to-roots" purpose. So what we have now, is two top-notch bands to offer - Mindeyes performing the mindblowing melodic rock experience and Steamroller to rumble the venues with roots and blues rock. If you see either one having a gig nearby, don't hesitate to come and check us. You won't be disappointed!
