Craig Buchanan Bio: Craig Buchanan is a musician that writes many different styles ranging from Britpop to Alt-Country, many have said it is hard to classify the style, Craig likes to describe it simply as "music". Having grown up in Birmingham, England, Craig was raised with an inner-city mentality and dreams of getting away from the busy life and being free of the towering metropolis around him, some of the avenues taken by people were to sell drugs, take drugs, join a gang or just hang out at pubs and drink your evenings away with friends, this may sound good to some but it became intolerable for Craig in the 90s. "Yknow I just got tired of seein these chavs just not wanting to do anything with their lives besides make others lives hell that is!" Craig had always wrote lyrics as early as 15 years old but could never figure out his old classical guitar that his mother had purchased him for Christmas of 1992, it was around 1997 that a friend suggested that Craig join his band as a singer, a month or so later Craig was moved to guitarist (a role he had no idea how to fulfill at that time) and there began the quick ascent to becoming a musician and songwriter. Forming his first band, Dakota, with some college friends in the fall of 1997 his dreams of becoming more than his surroundings were becoming realized. Writing most of the songs for Dakota he became fully immersed in music and learning as much as he could. Over the next 7 years Craig would move from band to band, after Dakota came a solo stint where the recordings for what was supposed to be his first album began in Connecticut, USA, this was followed by The Resurrection which was effectively the bassist and singer of Dakota reforming again with a new drummer and a new style and direction the band wrote more as unit instead of individuals with Craig being the driving force, after The Resurrection came The Rhodes and then finally in the summer of 2005 Craig made his move to Massachusetts, USA and continued as a solo artist. "I just got tired of not being able to have a consistent band, the only consistency was Liam (the bassist and long time friend) and that was it. So I just figured now Im in a new place its time to just be me." Wrapping up the first few sessions at the studio in Connecticut it was apparent that there was a new hunger in Craig to create consistently, around his 25th birthday he wrote "All The Days", what he deems as The song that changed everything for me!. Written in 1 day and recorded the very next week this was a new direction and focus for Craig, his songs started taking a more thoughtful direction rather than the youthful wants of his English material. Not to say his material wasnt mature "Highs & Hangovers", "Reflection(s) Of Youth" and "The 5th Voice" all pointed to a deeper writing pool than the surface initially showed. "Those songs were GOOD, well some of them Im still really proud of like 'Highs & Hangovers' I love the jazzy middle part! That and 'All That You Could Bring', thats another good one for me at that time I just wanted to write songs that meant more to me." Over the last 5 years Craig took a 3 year hiatus from writing because of family commitments which was interspersed with some of the material that is being recorded currently, 3 of the new songs came over the summer including "Hurricane Rose", the tentative title track for the album. "Thats another one of those tunes that I get the same feeling I did when I wrote 'All The Days' Im excited to get that into the studio and finally completed and its only been 2 months since I wrote it! " Look out for a digital download album before the end of the year and the debut album in 2012, alongside 3 songs for a feature film soundtrack with the band The Deadly Vipers. |
