Umar Plummer a.k.a. Jah Rain Jah Rain comes as a blessing and this is manifested in his wealth of talent- Producer, Recording Artiste , Rhythm Maker of a judge for the Just For Peace Talent Contest. His (Jah Rain) talent has not gone unseen as Henfield Records- the Production House of for Richie Spice “Earth a Run Red” and Just for Peace , an organization which promotes Peace through conscious lyrics, have grafted his extraordinary talent. Jah Rain’s relationship with Henfield comes with his co-producing five songs on Henfield’s Bless My Soul Album, on which Jah Rain is featured once with a song “Midnight” a combination with Zabiki. In addition, Jah Rain has two other releases- Love Wi A Deal With and Red Hot on the Iyah Vybz Muzik label. Jah Rain, whose real name is Umar Plummer, was influenced by his father , Dyrick, who use to play drums and Johanna who thought he would realised his dreams of becoming a successful entertainer. Born in Rock Hall, St. Andrew (home of the Bonner Brothers, Pliers, Richie Spice and Spanner Bonner, the young Jah Rain started out as class- room deejay using the desk as a drum, while attending Rock Hall All- Age School in St Andrew in 1996. His class-mates thought he had potential and gave him thumbs up for his performance. Three years later( 1999) having passed through St. Leonards All -Age and Knockalva College, Jah Rain began to build rhythm in his early twenties. He was inspired by Lee Scratch Perry- a Grammy Award Winner, who is famous for the one drop rhythm. “ I was first fascinated in building dance-hall rhythm, but I suddenly changed. Lee Scratch Perry brought a difference having made rhythm on which the late Bob Marley recorded. Jah Rain One Drop rhythm- namely “Red Hot,” “Rock Stone” and “Iyah Medz” have featured such artistes as Zabiki, Lutan Fyah, Little John, Eddie Fitzroy and himself. These songs promote Peace, Love and Unity. Jah Rain moved from rhythm maker to dee-jaying. He recalled Sizzla as the artiste who impacted most on his music career in the latter part of the 1990’s. “Sizzla has a unique style which appeal to the masses- Two of these songs are “Black Woman and Child” and “Solid as a Rock.” Jah Rain debut release “Love Wi A Deal With” on the Iyah Vybz Muzik Label was released 2007, Another release “Red Hot” has the following lines: “It a get Redder than Redder Hotter than Hotter. Mi see people a dead Plus the economy a get flatter…”. One of his biggest break was his connection with Henfield Record, a Production House in Spanish Town. Henfield is giving Jah Rain full support on an album with tracks including “Midnight,” “Bless my Soul,” “Dog a Nyam Dog,” “ Holy Place,” and “ Summer Time.” “Midnight” and “Bless My Soul” are getting excellent rotation, The two artistes ( Jah Rain and Zabiki ) have been getting several radio and television interviews. In addition, Jah Rain who plays an important role in “Just for Peace Programme” has been assigned the job of coaching finalists in the Just For Peace Talent Contest which involves students ages 14 to 18 years old. Jah Rain is also a judge in the contest and believes these opportunities will help him to secure worldwide recognition.
