the grey notes - "drunk and alone" |
When the lights flicked on and there was no one next to her She looked around, maybe a note was left somewhere. "Expect defeat and you're bound to lose," But she's lyin' on the bottom, headed no where new. So she called for a cab, but she couldn't pay the fare So she offered to do the only thing that she knew. Then she met up with the man who would tell her what to do, What to wear, what to eat, Where to stand, and where to sleep. And when she'd played her role, And she'd done her part, He'd take a bite of the dough, Without an ounce of regard. But he weren't the one who couldn't sleep for shame, Or hide what he was, or had to change his name. That honor, privelage was for her to own. To drink the elixer, creamy white like a bone. She's told it's no one but her to blame But the potential she'd shown, daddy was drunk and alone... And when the nights were long, & she could freeze just standin' there Her mind would wander, call it escape from where she were. And she was lost for a minute, and happiest then, Interrupted by a car horn, told her get in. |
