Quicksand Remedy - Funk Rock Trio
Quicksand Remedy - Funk Rock Trio Bio:

After several years of falling in an out of the musical projects, Chris Southern (Suth), John Skillington (Skilly) and Jose Luis Selaya (Pepe) suddenly and unexpectedly found each other in the most unlikely place: a call centre office in a suburb of Barcelona, Spain in the Summer of 2006. All three had enjoyed and toiled with previous bands, and were not really quite sure they wanted to go back!

However, a chemistry developed between the three who had similar but also completely differing views of musical taste and direction. Locked away in an underground studio in Barcelona’s San Andreu district they began to compose music that was dark and intense but also with real groove and melody. In May 2007, armed with a host of new songs and the belief that they had created something special, Quicksand Remedy took to the stage for the first time.

In the Summer of 2007, Quicksand Remedy completed a handful of gigs around Barcelona, and entered the studio late October to record their first single. The first single, a Double A side featuring 'Tribute’ and ‘Nothing Compared to You' was recorded at Wheel Sound Studio in Cerdanyola. 'Nothing Compared to You' is an anthemic, rock singalong with a funky twist that had already become a live favourite. 'Tribute' is a dark subject matter encapsulated in an energetic, rhythmic and uplifting groove.

In the late autumn of 2007, Pepe announced that he would leave Quicksand Remedy. Enter Diego Olschansky from Buenos Aires, who became the bass player with Quicksand Remedy in December 2007. Diego has quickly adapted his talent and creativity to the sound and the band are more excited than ever for people to hear it! Quicksand Remedy will continue to write new material and play concerts in 2008 and enter the recording studio’s again in February. The second single will again be produced by Txosse at Wheel Sound Studio.

Quicksand Remedy is Suth (Guitar/Voice) from Liverpool, UK, Skilly (Drums) from Cork, Ireland and Diego (Bass, Voice) from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Juliette and The Licks, QOTSA and Quicksand Remedy to play in Barcelona! posted: 21 Jan 2008 07:18 AM
FUUUUCCCKKK!! It’s all happening! Firstly, this weekend we have Juliette and The Licks coming to play in Barcelona! They will play at The Forum which seems like a big place for them to play. Also, just found out that Queens of the Stone Age will be playing at Razzmatazz on the 16 February, but tickets are already sold out! Bugger. That means purchasing from a tout. I don’t want to miss that one. Now for the really big news! Check out the Electric Weekend in Getafe coming in May 2008. Not only have Rage Against the Machine confirmed their first Spanish date, but also Metallica will be playing. Now that’s a line up. Two months after QOTSA play at Razzmatazz, Quicksand Remedy will grace the stage also in the second phase of the Emergenza Competition! We’ll play there in April, although no dates are confirmed just yet. More on this soon… Before we play there though, we have another date at Big Bang in El Raval in central Barcelona. We played there last year, it was a good night with lots of people but the sound could have been better. Hopefully we’ll get some more support from our musical friends this time to help fix the sound! This time around we play on Friday March 7th 2008. Some of Skilly’s family will be present so we are gonna have fuckin right party and debut some new material. I was away, working in Krakow, Poland last week so following the Mephisto gig, so Quicksand Remedy will resume rehearsals again tonight. After that gig and with a couple of new songs ready to be finished there is a good feeling at the moment. Also, we want to get the Foo Fighters cover ‘Best of You’ back in the set, as its been missed by the adoring public! www.myspace.com/quicksandremedy www.electric-weekend.com/ www.salarazzmatazz.com

Quicksand Remedy Emergenza and hopes for the year posted: 16 Jan 2008 09:31 AM
We are buzzing at the moment hoping that Rage Against The Machine will announce some Spanish tour dates. Since they got back together they have played in the US and Australia, but not Europe yet . The latest Foo Fighters single is sounding great; maybe they will also visit Barcelona this summer! You can view their latest video on youtube. The new album is hit and miss though, still some great tunes however so if they do come to Barcelona, we'll be checking them out. As for Quicksand Remedy, we are hoping to play some festivals in the summer so watch this space. Thanks everyone for coming to the Quicksand Remedy concert at Sala Mephisto last Saturday. We passed to the next stage of the Emergenza competition and we will play in Razzmatazz in April. The venue was a proper spit and sawdust heavy metal gaff. The stage was a decent size but the place was a dump! The equipment was all provided on stage by Emergenza. The guitar amp was a piece of crap to be honest, a make called Genz Benz which I had never heard of! Luckily my Tubescreamer sounded decent enough. I love that pedal, it makes any amp sound decent! There were a total of 8 bands that played on the night, some were much better than others. Mr Danger I particularly liked, and they also passed with us. The sound of the other bands was a bit inconsistent so we were wondering if we would get a decent mix, the sound on stage was fine once the vocal monitor was turned up a bit. Apparently the mix got better as the concert went on, we were only on for 25 minutes so once we got to our fifth and final number, 'Nothing Compared to You' was sounding good. So we will play in Razzmatazz. The last time I was in there was to watch a fine set from Incubus back in September.
