We would like to introduce to you the first and only steel drum band in Israel, JERUSALEM STEEL. The band includes two steel drummers, each one on different size drums, one bass player and one percussionist
Even though ‘Jerusalem Steel’ has been in existence for a short period of time(founded in June,1997), we have already performed at a number of venues throughout the country. We perform for schools, formal concerts, parties, outdoor festivals and just about any fun event. Our repertoire includes calypso, reggae, rock, jazz, classical and popular Israeli songs. The group has been noted for its variety of songs, unbridled enthusiasm and contagious rhythms. A ‘Carnival’ spirit accompanies this group wherever it performs.
The sixty five mile long island of Trinidad is the birthplace of one of the world’s newest and most unusual folk instruments, the steel drum. The drum is made by cutting of the end of a 55 gallon oil drum and tempering the disc until different sections of it emit distinct musical pitches when tapped with a rubber tipped drumstick.
