Waking Bio: In an effort to promote the conscious exploration of self, WAKING speaks to the hearts and minds of its audiences through aggressive hard rock riffs, dynamic musical composition, and a strong melodic sense. Though their sound can be compared to modern rock greats such as A Perfect Circle and Staind, the band’s sound is unique and speaks to audiences who crave moving and intelligent music. Drawing influences and inspiration from great bands like U2, Smashing Pumpkins, and Depeche Mode, Waking has created a distinct sound that is uniquely their own. Formed in 2000 by guitarist J.P. and lead vocalist Perf, Waking has become a permanent fixture in the local NYC/NJ circuit for over half a decade. Their powerful live performance has allowed Waking to build a considerable local fan base, forging a sound and identity that has enabled them to sell out many prestigious clubs (CBGB, Maxwell’s). In that time, and without former representation from a record label, the band has managed to write, self-produce, and distribute thousands of copies of their first album, The Maze. To date, the band has just recently opened for a national act, Clutch, at the Starland Ballroom in NJ. They were also featured on the 2006 September issue of No Cover magazine and Groupies Suck Vol. 8 compilation. Drawn from real life events, their debut album, The Maze, chronicles the band’s darker side, each song painting a story of love, anguish, tragedy and transcendence. Inspired by the loss a family member, the album is driven by heavy guitar riffs and sharp rhythmic precision, yet the album’s most notable quality lies in the elegance guided by the passionate vocalization and melodies of lead singer Perf. Recorded at Big Blue Meenie Studios in Jersey City, NJ, guitarist J.P. worked along side producer Jay Canter (Thursday, Sick Of It All) to define the sound that would become the band's auditory vision realized. |
